Letter: Part of PHS median strip is a traffic hazard

Part of median strip is a traffic hazard

To the editor:

The fence on the median strip in front of Pittsfield High School prevents students from being struck by a car. The same type of fence on the median strip further west however, between First street and Bartlett Avenue, is a traffic hazard.

It was put on the south edge of the median strip to avoid taking down a tree. The fence in this position obscures oncoming traffic for a car making a left turn from East Street onto Bartlett Avenue. The slight curve of the fence around the tree presents an opaque screen of the eastbound traffic.

Does anyone else see this as a problem? I hate to see a tree taken down, but I also don't want to have an accident on my way to the library. Maybe removing the fence is the solution.
