Letter: People's Pantry defines community

People's Pantry defines community

To the editor:

This is a heartfelt thank you to all those in the Berkshires who have supported The People's Pantry.

Since our beginning in 1999 we have sought to address the problems of hunger in our South County communities. During that time hundreds have received help and tons of food has been given. Because individuals, churches, synagogues, schools, libraries, stores and banks (as well as many other organizations) have generously shared with us, we are grateful.

Those who come to the pantry on Thursdays each week are aware that people they don't know care about them. Volunteers make the pantry work. There are no paid administrators. The People's Pantry is an expression of what community means.

Carol Purcell, Great Barrington
