Letter: Perplexed by Great Barrington's anti-business attitude

Gr. Barrington's odd anti-business attitude

To the editor:

Imagine owning a business in a small tourist town and not wanting more out of town visitors? Imagine owning a restaurant, downtown shop, store or real estate office and not wanting a hotel in downtown Great Barrington? Imagine being a coffee shop owner and being on the Finance Committee and being against collecting more and business?

I can understand B&Bs and motels after the free market system works better when there is no competition. And we all know how monopolies are so consumer-friendly like Time-Warner, National Grid and Verizon.

Last year the town came up with a progressive tax to thank the second-home owners for living in our community and now we have people who don't want more tourists in town at all.

Have to wonder if the 60 businesses that signed the Save Searles School petition even want our business?

Patrick Fennell, Great Barrington
