Letter: Pittsfield comes through for needy

To the editor of THE EAGLE:

On behalf of the Healthy Pittsfield Partnership, here’s a super thank you to the Pittsfield community for its generosity during the recent "Super Food Drive, in which 3,200 pounds of healthy food were collected and almost $1,000 was donated toward healthy food purchases. The food has been distributed through Berkshire Community Action Council to 10 local food pantries.

Super thanks to Price Chopper, Stop & Shop, Big Y, Guido’s and the Downtown Farmers Market for their support, and to Shirley MacDonald from the Berkshire Community Action Council, co-chair Cheryl Rose, and our volunteers at each food drive location.

According to the Food Bank of Western Massachusetts, one in five children and one in eight people are food insecure. Your much-needed help is appreciated. Because of your generosity, many of our neighbors can eat better and take steps to improve their health. Super job Pittsfield!

Dr. Geyer is Food Drive co-chair, Pittsfield Board of Health, and Ms. Armstrong is director of the city of Pittsfield Health Department.
