Letter: Press lawmakers on animal cruelty
To the editor of THE EAGLE:
H1456 is a bill before the House allowing confined farm animals to stand up, lie down and turn around. This means gestation crates for pregnant pigs, battery cages for hens and standard veal crates would not be allowed in Massachusetts. A 2014 Mason Dixon poll found that more than 90 percent of Massachusetts voters support outlawing these cruel confinement systems.
This bill has also been endorsed by 42 local farms, 181 Massachusetts veterinarians, MSPCA, HSUS, numerous other animal protection and environmental groups. To learn more, go to www.humane society.org and type "H1456" into the search. Once this page appears, there are three links to click for information.
