Puddester will bring fresh ideas to board

To the editor:

Planning boards in any locale must often face difficult decisions to best meet their community's needs. Certainly that has been the case in Williamstown. The people who serve on the Williamstown Planning Board, without compensation, deserve a great deal of credit for the time and effort they spend fulfilling their obligation to the town.

All the candidates running for the two open seats on the Williamstown Planning Board this year are competent, dedicated citizens. However, having served on a number of nonprofit and corporate boards, it is my firm belief that organizations benefit when people with fresh perspectives and ideas are periodically added to their boards. Susan Puddester would be such a person on the Planning Board.

Susan has only been a resident of Williamstown for five years but has served the town literally from the moment she arrived. Tropical Storm Irene occurred within a few months of her arrival and Susan became involved in the recovery efforts from the beginning. She currently serves as president of Higher Ground, and is on the boards of the Community Chest and Willinet. She recently joined the board of the Fund for Williamstown.

Although this is Susan's first run for elected office, she will bring an independent, thoughtful, balanced voice to the board that will benefit Williamstown. I encourage the voters of Williamstown to join me in voting for her.

Erwin A. Stuebner Jr., M.D., Williamstown
