Letter: Re-elect Bartels as Dalton Selectman
Re-elect Bartels as Dalton Selectman
To the editor:
We encourage Dalton voters to support the re-election of Selectman John Bartels.
John has been a faithful and strong supporter of our town's government over his many years of service on various community and town boards and commissions. We believe that this service plus his long career as a highly respected police officer, sergeant and chief makes John uniquely qualified to address the many issues that come before the Select Board.
We would also like to express our disagreement with the charges of lack of transparency by the board and town management leveled by some candidates. We see nothing to support this. Such charges are often made by those who have not followed town government activities regularly and only pay attention once an issue makes the news.
Regarding Housatonic Street, this project was set in motion by the Select Board of the time about nine years ago with the decision to seek approval to appropriate the funds necessary for the design work required to put this project on the state TIP list. Knowing that once on the list actual construction would be seven to 10 years away, it was a bit of a struggle to get people on board. Today, we are seeing the benefits of that foresight.
Larry and Jean Gingras, Dalton
