Reject Trump's racist bashing of immigrants

To the editor:

I didn't sleep the night of the recent immigration speech by Donald Trump. It was that disturbing. It didn't keep me awake because I'm afraid of immigrants but because his rhetoric was absolutely chilling.

In case you missed it — or your dog whistle isn't working — in a nutshell what he said was: "Be afraid of brown people, and be very afraid of brown people without the proper paperwork. You are in danger! It's all around you!" He promised to deport millions of people in the first hour of his (God, help us) presidency.

He cited crime statistics which are completely bogus, suggesting there are bands of "illegal aliens" (he doesn't refer to them as people) roaming around waiting to kill or rape you. In reality, you are hundreds of times more likely to be a crime victim of a citizen than by an undocumented immigrant. He'll institute an "ideology test" for new immigrants, and if they don't agree to believe what we do and "love us," no admittance. Scary!

Although I'm not a big fan of Hillary Clinton, I will be voting for her and urge anyone else who values our great diverse nation, to do the same.

We are a nation of immigrants. "Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, the tempest-tossed to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

Trump's immigrant-bashing is terrifying for the continuation of our great nation. He cannot be allowed to destroy our beloved country.
