Revisionist history of Stockbridge events

To the editor:

I read with interest Cris Irsfeld's op-ed article in The Berkshire Eagle on Jan. 22. It is essentially a self-serving article on why he is not more respected in Stockbridge.

He states that he chooses not to attend town meetings because he never wants to become someone who gets up 10 times at a meeting and walks slowly across the room just to hear himself talk into a microphone. That is no excuse! Mr. Irsfeld should attend town meetings and express his views. Mr. Irsfeld was asked on a number of times to serve on a study committee of an impending issue, and he has always declined.

Further in the article, Mr. Irsfeld states that he did not run in 2008 for reelection over the incident involving his daughter. The truth is that he did run for reelection as a Selectman and he lost. I received 69 percent of the vote, and the town rejected Mr. Irsfeld's candidacy.

George Shippey, Stockbridge
