Letter: Sign on to cause of farm animal rights
Sign on to cause of farm animal rights
To the editor:
Animals in large factory farms often spend their entire lives cruelly confined in spaces so small they cannot extend their limbs, stand up, turn around or lie down. This is not only inhumane but it is also unsanitary and unhealthy for people who eat the meat and eggs.
Massachusetts voters have an opportunity to get a measure on the 2016 ballot that would require enough space for these chickens, pigs and calves to stand up, stretch, lie down and turn around. It's little enough to ask for, but a huge improvement over their lives now.
I have been collecting signatures for this measure and have been encouraged by the large number of people who agree that these current extreme confinement practices have no place in this state.
If you see me, or one of my fellow volunteers, I ask that you take a few seconds out of your day to sign your name to get this important measure led by Citizens for Farm Animal Protection on next year's ballot.
