Snobbish AP critic unfair to 'Cats'

To the editor:

I guess the better the public likes a show, the more a theater critic like Mark Kennedy of the Associated Press feels challenged to find everything he can that is wrong with it. ("How many lives can 'Cats' have?", Eagle, August 2).

Kennedy pans "Cats" but acknowledges that he is baffled by why it had an 18-year run on Broadway. The AP should get a critic who isn't baffled.

Maybe Kennedy is writing to show a few scholars how erudite he is. He isn't writing for the public. His final pun, using "clawing" to mean "cloying," is cute but disgusting.
