Letter: Support Shakespeare in schools program
Support Shakespeare in schools program
To the editor:
Did you know that more than 70 students spend their time from September to November studying, training and learning Shakespeare? They don't just perform it for us, they get together with nine other schools and learn trust, combat and sword fighting techniques. They learn how to express themselves, they bond with other students with other schools and become family with others they probably wouldn't consider friends because they don't have classes with, but with this unique experience, they all become united.
I guarantee you that this is not the Shakespeare that you learned when you were in school. This is not a show that you will be bored or lost watching. These students, along with their directors create, design and put on a show with such passion you will be amazed and entertained for sure.
They are a cast of 70 students, 70! That's is more than most sports teams. That is commitment and love for Shakespeare and one another to keep doing this for the past 23 years here at Taconic High School.
I am writing this because I believe in the students and more importantly because I believe that this program needs to continue. We need support from the community. We need people to come see us and to donate to keep this alive and strong so it can go on for 20 more years.
Please join us Thursday or Friday at 7 p.m. at Taconic High School Save our Shakespeare.
