Letter: Thanksgiving Angels offer their thanks

Posted

To the editor:

Thank you! Two very small words, but for the Thanksgiving Angels, they are two very important words. On Nov. 21, more than 1,200 families were given a turkey and all the fixings from South Congregational Church to celebrate our national holiday on Nov. 24. How did this happen?

There were requests for funds from the community to buy the turkeys, collections at various meal sites and food pantries as well as faith communities to collect supplies in the neighborhood of 1,700 items so larger families may receive more items than smaller families. People were given dressing, potatoes, canned vegetables, cranberry sauce, fresh vegetables, gravy, pies, breakfast breads, eggs, margarine, rolls, milk and toilet tissue. This is certainly monumental and amazing as we began planning six months ago.

We are all proud to be a part of the great city of Pittsfield where neighbor helps neighbor and friends are made. So many people said that they would have no holiday dinner if we did not help them. This is what makes you, the people of Pittsfield, so special.

That this was our fifth year of a cooperative venture of more than 17 groups is wonderful. However, the financial end is so important as many of you donated your treasure to help with the funding of this project. The Thanksgiving Angels hope your Thanksgiving was as bright as it was for the many people who received your gifts during this season of giving.
