Letter: Trump's narcissism is just the start
Trump's narcissism is just the start
To the editor:
A fair amount has been written about the character of the presidential candidates, and with Donald Trump it's usually about his "narcissist mental disorder." These analyses aren't inaccurate, but they do seem incomplete.
Anyone running for high office needs to have an oversized ego and be narcissistic. It's a rough game and they need mental armor. As for Trump, his narcissism seems to me to be but a symptom of his overall condition.
Trump seems to have Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD). Narcissism can be just a symptom within it. I first learned about BPD from the pages of The Eagle in the spring of 1989. Since then, I've identified some 50 or so individuals in my life who have this destructive disorder.
There is no "core" morality to these borderlines. They are amoral. They lack all imagination and cannot tell what is real or not. Manipulation and distraction are usually their favorite methods. Back-biting and lying rumors are other techniques. The whole world for them is either "all good" or "all bad."
By my experience (life-long) and the past 27 years of research, I conclude that Trump is one. Vote as you will. It looks like we'll have three choices in November.
