Letter: Turn out for a reopened hospital
To the editor of THE EAGLE:
On Tuesday, July 1 at 6 p.m. at the American Legion in North Adams, there will be a public hearing on the need to reopen the North Adams hospital. The hospital was closed in a 60-hour period in violation of the law. Now those who want the hospital back must make their voices heard.
North Adams has a large population of senior citizens and low-income workers who cannot afford the trip to the hospital in Pittsfield. If a loved one has to go to Pittsfield, caregivers might never get a chance for a last hug. We must make it clear to Stroudwater Associates, which is conducting a survey on what North Adams needs, that the hospital was here for over 120 years and we need it back.
We need the American Legion to be packed. We can all make an excuse for why we can’t go, but this time make an excuse to go. North Adams will be in critical care if the hospital is not reopened as a full service hospital.
