Letter: Veterans, Post 298, lose a great friend
Veterans, Post 298, lose a great friend
To the editor:
The passing of Jeane Weinstein at 90 will be greatly felt by veterans of South Berkshire County.
Last year, Miss Jeane, a resident of Geer Nursing Center in Canaan CT., found out that the Murphy-Leary American Legion, Post 298 of Housatonic, was having its annual poppy drive and requested poppies for the nursing center to help support the Relief Fund for Veterans in Need. She set up a table with an American flag, poppies and a picture of her late husband Sydney in uniform with his medals.
In no time at all she sold out her inventory and requested additional poppies, to the surprise of our Post. She raised a great deal of money that was put to use helping our veterans. Her passion for veterans will not be forgotten.
Andy Moro, Housatonic The writer is commander of Post 298.
