Letter: Youthful visitors must promote freedom at home

Youthful visitors must promote freedom at home

To the editor:

The informative article of Aug. 1, titled "Art, peace and common ground," described the Buxton School's exciting program that has brought Israeli, Palestinian and American teens together to develop understanding, dialogue and friendship.

The closing paragraph was most revealing: "Editor's note: Some people quoted in this story declined to give their last names in order to avoid any potential persecution following its publishing."

Let's hope that these now enlightened Middle Eastern youth return to the West Bank and inspire a genuine Arab Spring, to promote freedom of expression, freedom from persecution and improved chances for peace.
