Letters: Eagle wise to run Seven's columns

Posted

To the editor of THE EAGLE:

In the consolidation of the Transcript, I was glad to learn that John Seven will be staying on as an Eagle columnist. In the 10 years that I’ve lived in North Adams, he has consistently been the best thing about the paper. From his artist profiles to innovative holiday pieces, I appreciate the freshness of his writing.

In an age when most reviews are little more than sycophantic re-workings of press releases, John’s articulate insights provide not only trustworthy opinions they offering meaningful understanding of what the arts are, what they can do, and why they are important. That’s something of great value as this community continues to mature around an arts-integrated culture.

When friends visit from New York and elsewhere and ask what makes North Adams special, one the things I often cite is a small local newspaper that runs really thoughtful reviews of graphic novels. That doesn’t happen many places. He’s a rare creature in journalism today, and you are fortunate to have him -- as are we.

RICH REMSBERG
