Linn surges into Berkshire Singles lead

On a day when most of the first-round leaders struggled, senior standout Bob Linn shot a 2-under-par 70 to surge into the lead at the Berkshire Singles at Berkshire Hills Country Club.

Linn, a former Berkshire Hills member and club champion, is at even-par 144 after 36 holes in the 54-hole event. Linn is now a member of Franconia Golf Course in Springfield. He is a former Massachusetts Senior Player of the Year.

First-round Andy Congdon, another former Mass. Senior Player of the Year, struggled to a 5-over 77 to drop into a second-place tie with Longmeadow Country Club’s Patrick Oleksak, who had a 76 after an opening 71.

A pair of Berkshire Hills members, Jeff Puleri and George Jarck, are another shot back. Puleri fired his second straight 74 while Jarck had a 76.

The final round will be held today with the leaders teeing off between 1:30 and 2 p.m.
