Little League Section 1: Pittsfield South 11s win; Great Barrington 12s fall


WESTFIELD -- The Pittsfield South 10/11-year-old All-Stars earned an 8-3 win over Holden in the Little League Section 1 tournament on Wednesday.

Shane Bernardo got the victory on the mound, striking out four batters in four innings. He allowed only one run.

London Steinman went 2 for 2 with two runs scored. Andrew Watkins had a double and two RBI. Bo Bramer got the last two outs in the sixth inning for Pittsfield, the District 1 champion.

Luke Delongchamp supplied the power for Holden, hitting two home runs. He had two RBI in the game.

Pittsfield plays today against Westfield American at Westfield Cross Street Field at 5:30 p.m.

Little League 11/12: Westfield National 11, Great Barrington 3

WESTFIELD -- The Westfield National 12s used the long ball to beat Great Barrington on Wednesday in the Section 1 tournament.

Westfield's Jack Mascadrelli hit a three-run home run in the second inning. The team followed with two solo home runs, taking a 5-0 lead.

Great Barrington answered in the third, when Graham Herrick's walk scored Curt Wilton. Great Barrington scored again in the inning on a Westfield error.

Westfield's offense continued to score runs, however, and Great Barrington scored its final run in the fourth when Herrick walked in a run.

Herrick took the loss. He pitched four innings.

The loss drops Great Barrington to the consolation bracket, where they'll face Leominster today at 5:30 p.m. in Leominster at Angelo Piccucci Field.
