Loaded handgun, shell casings near site of Pittsfield shooting, but no victim
PITTSFIELD — City police are investigating an apparent shooting at the intersection of Second and Lincoln streets on Monday afternoon.
No one was hit, but a loaded semiautomatic handgun was recovered from a storm drain on Wellington Avenue, according to Pittsfield Police Chief Michael Wynn.
Officers were dispatched to the intersection about 1:30 for reports of shots fired, Wynn said. Witnesses reported several shots being fired and several people running from the area.
Police found spent shell casings on Lincoln Street and were directed to the storm drain by witnesses who said an unidentified male had dropped an object into it.
The recovered weapon, shell casings and other physical evidence were collected, Wynn said.
The case is under investigation by the Pittsfield Police Detective Bureau. Anyone with information is asked to call 413-448-9705.
