Local roundup: Great Barrington still alive after win in 11-12 Little League


PITTSFIELD >> Great Barrington remained in contention in the 11-12 Little League baseball tournament with a 14-1 victory over Dalton-Hinsdale in the loser's bracket semifinal round at Clapp Park.

Chase Vermullen recorded two home runs and four RBI for Great Barrington. Rayford Mueller, Peter LaRochelle and Matthew Benham also homered once apiece for Great Barrington.

The South County squad scored five in the third and five in the fifth. Nick Pectal was the winning pitcher, combining for a two-hitter with Justin Foster.

Ryan Scott homered for Dalton-Hinsdale while Brian Breitmaier contributed a base hit.

Great Barrington advances to the loser's bracket final today at Clapp Park against Pittsfield National.


PLYMOUTH >> The North Adams SteepleCats jumped out to an early lead and never relinquished it in a 9-6 victory over the Plymouth Pilgrims.

The SteepleCats took a 5-0 lead through 3 1/2 innings and eventually led 8-1 through 4 1/2.

C.J. Price and John Mazza each had three hits for North Adams while Daniel Holst homered and doubled.

Braxton Wilks picked up the win for North Adams, pitching five innings, allowing two hits and one run. Five other pitchers combined to close out the game, including Tanner Bird, who picked up the save.

North Adams is back in action today at home against the Newport Gulls at 6:30 p.m.
