Local Roundup: Lanesboro wins 12U opener


LANESBORO >> Hosting the Cal Ripken 12U state tournament this year, Lanesboro got off to a strong start with a 9-1 victory over Westminster at Laston Memorial Field.

Panayiotis Constantopoulos registered three hits, including two home runs and a double, plus three RBI for Lanesboro. Derek Paris went 2 for 3 with a home run and three RBI while Josh Polumbo doubled and scored twice.

Pitcher Jack Cangelosi took a perfect game into the fifth inning for Lanesboro before he allowed a home run. He finished with a complete game, scattering three hits and striking out eight.

Lanesboro will play today at 9 a.m. in a winner's bracket game against Greenfield.

In the other opener, Southern Berkshire fell 6-5 in eight innings to Narrangansett.

Narragansett walked off with the win when Kane Celata singled home Dominic Hall.

Evan Heath, Callan Hoff, Daniel Munch and Colin Durkin each recorded two hits for Southern Berkshire. Heath, Hoff and Munch each scored a run while Durkin contributed an RBI.

Southern Berkshire will play an elimination game today at 5:30 p.m. against the loser of the Lanesboro/Greenfield tilt.

In the other winner's bracket game of the six-team tournament, Narragansett will face Turners Falls today at 9 a.m. Westminster awaits the loser at 5:30 p.m. in the other elimination game.
