Local roundup: Pittsfield Post 68 advances

EAST LONGMEADOW — Pittsfield Post 68 has completed its first step along a journey to defend its American Legion state baseball championship.

Post 68 scored early and often against East Longmeadow, rolling to an 8-0 win Sunday afternoon and taking the best-of-three series two games to none. Post 68 outscored East Longmeadow 18-0 in two games.

Matt Koperniak had a hot bat for Post 68, with a single and a double. He drove in three runs. Chad Shade went 2 for 4 and scored three times.

Jake Flynn was the first of four pitchers for Post 68. Patrick Colvin, who threw two shutout innings of relief and gave up the only hit of the game for East Longmeadow, got credit for the win.

Post 68 will now await the winner of the series between Aldenville and East Springfield to see who it will play in the double-elimination portion of the Western Mass. tournament.

The first game of the series will be Wednesday in Pittsfield.

11-12 Little League

PITTSFIELD AMERICAN 15, PITTSFIELD NATIONAL 3

PITTSFIELD >> The Pittsfield American 11-12-year old All-Stars advanced to the winner's bracket final with their victory over Pittsfield National.

American struck early, scoring four times in the first inning. They broke the game open in the fourth, scoring six runs, and added four runs in the fifth as well.

Brendan Stannard and Shane Bernardo each had home runs. Owen Kroboth went 3 for 4 with three RBI. Bo Bramer also had three RBI. Kieran Coscia was the winning pitcher.

Jake Taylor and Jonathan Monahan had two hits each for National. Nick Hall had two RBI.

National will play in the loser's bracket final on Tuesday against the winner of Great Barrington and Dalton-Hinsdale at Clapp Park. The winner will face Pittsfield American on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.

DALTON-HINSDALE 3, ADAMS 1

PITTSFIELD >> Doug Collins' RBI double in the third inning proved to be the winning run for Dalton-Hinsdale.

The win advances Dalton-Hinsdale to the loser's bracket semifinal. Adams is eliminated from the tournament. Ryan Scott was the winning pitcher.

Logan Davis led Adams with two hits. Ty Audin had a RBI in the fifth inning.

Dalton-Hinsdale will face Great Barrington tonight at 5:30 p.m. at Clapp Park.

Babe Ruth Baseball

PITTSFIELD 14S ARE RAINED OUT

PITTSFIELD >> Early morning rains forced the Babe Ruth 14-year old All-Star tournament game against Nipmuc to be postponed.

That game will now be played Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at Deming Park. The winner advances to the 14-year old World Series in Westfield next month. The loser can still get to the World Series by virtue of winning the New England Regional.

PITTSFIELD 13s win

WESTFIELD >>In 13s Babe Ruth, Pittsfield defeated Westfield in the first game of a best-of-three-series on the road 5-4.

Game 2 is today at Deming Field at 5:30 p.m.
