Local roundup: Pittsfield Post 68 off to 2-0 start

BELCHERTOWN >> Three pitchers combined for a one-hitter, leading Pittsfield Post 68 to a 13-1 win over Belchertown Post 239 on Wednesday.

Izaiya Mestre got the start, striking out two in two innings. Sam Fick followed, pitching three innings and allowing the lone hit. Ethan Forfa pitched the final inning. He struck out two.

Post 68 (2-0) scored 10 runs in the first three innings. They added two in the fourth and one in the fifth.

Simon Nassif led Pittsfield with a double, a home run and five RBI. Matt Koperniak had a double and two runs scored.

"We're continuing to hit the ball," Post 68 manager Jim Mazzer said. "Everybody on the roster got into the game and we're picking up where we left off last year."

Post 68 returns to action tonight at 5:30 p.m. at Clapp Park against the Post 68 Junior team.

NEWPORT 11, NORTH ADAMS 4

NEWPORT, R.I. >> The Newport Gulls scored four times in the second inning and four times in the eighth, leading to a commanding victory over the North Adams SteepleCats.

Gage Synder led Newport with three hits, three RBI and two runs scored. Mark Powell had three hits. Stephen Scott had two hits and three RBI. Nick Riotto led North Adams with three hits and two RBI.

Kris Bubic earned the win. He scattered six hits in five innings, striking out seven and allowing two earned runs. Jake Cousins pitched four scoreless innings for the save.

The 'Cats will travel to face the Upper Valley Nighthawks, Friday at 6:30 p.m.

In the North County semifinal, Derek Paris led Adams Community Bank with three hits.

Carbone Auto will face Williamstown Police at Bud Anderson Field in Williamstown at 5:30 p.m. for the North County Championship

SOUTH BERKSHIRE 12, LEE HARDWARE 7

Fox Homes will face South Berkshire at Steiner School at 5:30 p.m. for the South County Championship.

TUESDAY'S RESULTS

In the first North County semifinal, Williamstown Police defeated Countryside 9-2. In the first South County semi, Fox Homes beat Lenox Police 8-5.
