Local roundup: Post 68 falls to Shrewsbury in state tournament

NORWOOD — The Pittsfield Post 68 baseball team fell to Shrewsbury on Monday night in the state American Legion tournament, 7-3.

LYNN >> The Pittsfield 15's Babe Ruth team fell in the semifinals of the New England Regionals on Monday, falling to North Providence-Smithfield, R.I. by a score of 6-2.

After both teams went scoreless in the first inning, both NPS and Pittsfield scored a run in the second. Both teams again scored in the fourth, but NPS's two runs in the top of the inning outdid Pittsfield's one in the bottom of the frame, and NPS held on the rest of the way. NPS added three runs in the sixth for insurance.

Pittsfield cranked out seven hits in the loss, while NPS had 10 hits.

Hunter Potash took the start and went 4 2/3 innings. He also stepped up at the plate, going 3 for 3 with two doubles. Joe Cragoliei finished off the game on the mound.

Colby Sherman had an RBI single in the second, and Hayden Harrington went 2 for 3 with an RBI.

While the result was not what Pittsfield was after on Monday, the team had a bigger battle to face — starting third baseman Cedric Rose was not with the team on Monday after being admitted to the hospital due to dehydration and complications from it. The team wishes Rose well, and the host city team, Lynn, traveled to see Rose after the games ended on Monday. Everyone wishes Rose a speedy recovery.

NPS will play host Lynn in the championship game today at 11 a.m.

NORWOOD >> The Pittsfield Post 68 game against Shrewsbury in the Massachusetts American Legion Tournament started late on Monday night, and a result was not available at print deadline.
