Local roundup: Post 68 wins again, Pewter Cup begins


WEST SPRINGFIELD >> Pittsfield Post 68 won its third consecutive game on Friday with a 6-2 defeat of West Springfield Post 207.

Simon Nassif collected three hits and drove in two for Pittsfield (7-1 overall, 5-1 Western Mass.). West Springfield fell to 3-1 with the loss.

Izaiya Mestre pitched the first three innings for Post 68, followed by two innings apiece from Ethan Forfa and Ross Omelenchuck.

Matt Schneider tripled for Post 68 and added an RBI. Nate Stump also contributed an RBI.

It was 2-2 through three innings before Pittsfield scored four in the top of the fifth to break the game open.

Post 68 continues its busy week with a game today at Wahconah Park against East Longmeadow Post 293 at 4 p.m.

PITTSFIELD >>The Torrington Country Club duo of Addison Owens and Ray Underwood shot a five-under 67 to seize the first round lead of the Pewter Cup at Berkshire Hills Country Club.

They hold a slim lead over Adam and Josh Trivilino and the 2014 champions, Billy McDonald and John Kelly, who both had 68s.

Owens and Underwood had six birdies and a lone bogey for their 67. They began the day with birdies on the first two holes before a bogey on the par-3 fifth dropped them to one-under. They closed with four birdies over the final 10 holes to give them the first round lead.

The leaderboard boasts a pair of teams with three-under 69s in Glenn and Mike Stopera, along with Frank Geiger and Mike Fitzpatrick.

In with 70s are four teams with Berkshire County ties: John Dahrouge (BHCC) and Matt Ortega (Stockbridge), Steve Sykes (BHCC) and Andy Dastoli (Orchards), Jeff (BHCC) and Rick Puleri (Greenock) and Shane (Taconic) and Mike Ortega (Unattached). All came in at two-under par.

The championship division will continue play today between 8-9 a.m.
