Local roundup: SteepleCats fall at home


NORTH ADAMS — Trent Leimkuehler's RBI single in the sixth inning proved to be the winning run, sending the Upper Valley Nighthawks to a 2-1 win over the North Adams SteepleCats on Friday.

Joseph Denison tied the game with a double in the sixth, setting up Leimkuehler's winning hit.

C.J. Price scored on a dropped third strike in the third for North Adams' lone run.

Bill Maier earned the win. He threw seven innings, scattering five hits. Ryan Tapp took the loss, throwing six innings, allowing only four hits and striking out five.

The SteepleCats travel to Keene to face the Swamp Bats at 6:30 tonight.


LYNN >> The Pittsfield Babe Ruth 15-year-old All-Stars won their first game in pool play of the Babe Ruth New England Regional tournament 11-3 over Lynn.

Pittsfield will play Maine today at 10 a.m.

Pittsfield dominated throughout, taking a 7-1 lead into the seventh, before icing the game with four more runs.

Ian Benoit earned the win on the mound. He pitched six innings, allowed four hits and struck out four. Mitchell Decelles pitched the final innings.
