Local roundup: SteepleCats, Suns both .500
NORTH ADAMS >> The North Adams SteepleCats are once again .500 after a win on Sunday.
The SteepleCats defeated the Danbury Westerners 7-5 to improve to a 2-2 record.
North Adams jumped out to a 6-0 lead through three, but Danbury had climbed back to within 6-5 by the sixth inning. The SteepleCats added an insurance run in the eighth en route to victory.
Robby Buffis picked up the win for North Adams, allowing three runs in five innings. He gave up six hits while striking out one and walking one.
Noah Vaughan was 3 for 4 with a home run, two RBI and two runs scored for the SteepleCats. Jean-Francois Garon also homered.
On Saturday, North Adams lost in 11 innings on the road against the Keene Swamp Bats.
In the 11th, Dom Iero singled home Tommy LaCongo to win it for Keene. For the SteepleCats, Keaton Wright and Vaughan both homered.
North Adams is back in action on Monday at the Winnipesaukee Muskrats.
PITTSFIELD >> Following three consecutive victories, the Pittsfield Suns dropped their second game in a row on Sunday.
The Suns were defeated 8-4 by the North Shore Navigators. Pittsfield's record now stands at 5-5.
In the loss, Al Zachary went 3 for 5 with a double, an RBI and a run scored. Pittsfield held a 4-1 lead through three innings, but North Shore chipped away and eventually took a 5-4 advantage in the top of the sixth.
For the Navigators, Alex Brickman picked up the win. Brickman scattered three hits in 4 2/3 innings of relief, striking out five and walking none while allowing no runs.
On Saturday, Pittsfield traveled to Bristol and lost 5-1 to the Blues. Eric Hamilton went 2 for 4 with an RBI for the Suns.
Pittsfield is back in action on Tuesday in Martha's Vineyard against the Sharks.
H.S. GIRLS LACROSSE
DALTON >> The Berkshire County high school girls lacrosse All-Star game was held on Friday evening at Wahconah Regional High School.
Players from the five county teams — Mount Greylock, Wahconah, Hoosac Valley, Lee and Pittsfield — participated.
The "Pink Ladies" defeated the "Yellow Jackets" in the game.
Mount Greylock's Emma Polumbo scored nine goals and added three assists for the Pink Ladies. Wahconah's Emmy Cote scored five goals and contributed five assists for the winning team while the Warriors' Jordan Budaj and Lee's Mikayla DeSantis each had hat tricks.
For the Yellow Jackets, Greylock's Caroline Flynn scored four times and had four assists while Hoosac Valley's Claudia Bresett registered a hat trick.
Greylock's Julia Whitney had 14 saves for the Pink Ladies while Wahconah's Katie Bachli recorded 11 saves for the Yellow Jackets.
