Local roundup: Suns, SteepleCats each earn wins


MARTHA'S VINEYARD >> The Pittsfield Suns picked up a 6-4 road victory in 10 innings against the Martha's Vineyard Sharks on Tuesday.

Colin Gimblet hit a two-run home run in the top of the 10th to give Pittsfield (6-5) the lead for good. Declan Cronin picked up the win for the Suns, as he pitched the final two innings without giving up a run, including the 10th.

Eric Hamilton went 2 for 5 with a home run, double, three runs and two RBI for Pittsfield while Gimblet was 2 for 5 with the aforementioned two-run homer.

For Martha's Vineyard, Jacob Rhinesmith and Jake Farrell each had two hits.

The Suns are back in action today at home against the Worcester Bravehearts.

NORTH ADAMS >> The North Adams SteepleCats won their third consecutive game. The SteepleCats defeated the Sanford Mainers 9-2.

Peter Lannoo picked up the win for North Adams (4-2), as he went six innings and allowed two runs on five hits while striking out eight and walking three.

Keaton Wright went 2 for 3 with a home run and two RBI for the SteepleCats while Benjamin Bengtson also homered. John Mazza was 2 for 4 for North Adams.

The SteepleCats scored six times in the second inning and added three more runs in the fifth en route to a 9-0 advantage.

For Sanford, Cameron Krowiak and Sam Stauble each had two hits.

North Adams is back in action today at the Newport Gulls.
