Local roundup: Taconic softball slugs way to first win

The Taconic softball team used the long ball to power its way to a 6-3 win over Pioneer on Friday.

A solo home run from Mallorie Smith in the fourth inning and a two-run home run from Madi Ely in the sixth inning provided enough offense for the Braves.

Lauren Aitken also had a strong day at the plate, going 3 for 3 with a triple.

Carly Decker earned the win, throwing a complete game, allowing only three hits and striking out five.

Baseball: Amherst 16, Williams 6

AMHERST -- The Lord Jeffs plated 10 runs in the first two innings en route to the big win.

Williams starter Daniel Smith lasted just 1 2/3 innings and was credited with all 10 runs Amherst scored in the first two innings.

The Ephs' Luke Pierce led the team with three RBI, all of which came on a bases-clearing triple in the fifth inning.
