Local volleyball, golf, XC roundup: Greylock defeats Lenox
LENOX — Mount Greylock volleyball played a strong all-around game, leading to a 25-8, 25-14, 25-18 win over Lenox.
The loss is Lenox's first of the season.
Lenox coach Bessena Cabe said the Mounties' attacked their front row, putting the ball in the right places to score.
Dagny Albano led the way with five aces and 18 assists for Greylock (3-1). Marley Buffis had eight digs. Jenna Benziger added seven kills and two blocks, and Autumn Delorey had six kills.
Anna Lynch had nine digs and one ace for Lenox (2-1). Victoria Vittori had seven kills, Casey Valle had three digs and Bombee Lahart had two kills and three digs.
"They distributed and moved the ball well," Cabe said. "We got into position for digs, and we put up a good fight."
MONUMENT MOUNTAIN 3, MOUNT EVERETT 1
GREAT BARRINGTON >> Monument Mountain rallied back from a first-set loss to defeat Mount Everett 22-25, 25-14, 25-22, 25-16.
Monument coach Kyle Henry said the team's defense improved as the game progressed, helping fuel the comeback.
Maria Tucker led Monument (2-1, 2-0 Berkshire South) with one ace and 12 assists. Danielle Sweet had three aces, four kills, two blocks and three digs.
Kayla Krom had eight kills for Everett (0-3, 0-2). Chandler DeGreneier had five aces and seven assists, Alyssa Rathbun had three aces and one kill and Maria DeManby added two aces and one kill.
"We've been working on communication a lot and tonight it played a huge role," Henry said. "We communicated well, our defense responded and our offense built off the defense. It was really great to see."
TACONIC 3, MOUNT ANTHONY 0
BENNINGTON, VT. >> Taconic earned a 25-21, 25-22, 25-17 sweep of Mount Anthony. The Patriots were without two key players, but they battled with the Braves throughout. Jasmine Rodriguez led Taconic with seven aces, two kills and two digs. Rachel Williams had five aces and Roselyn Vega added fives kills.
"They've really improved," Taconic coach Jenn Doerle said of second-year varsity team Mount Anthony. "We were able to work on our serving and we hurt them with that, but they've improved over last year."
Taconic is 1-2. Mount Anthony is 0-3.
WAHCONAH 3, ST. JOSEPH 0
DALTON >> Wahconah used its strong serving to sweep St. Joseph 25-8 25-14, 25-12.
Kathryn Beaudoin led Wahconah (2-1) with four aces and one kill. Emma Parkington had nine aces and two kills. Michaela DeFoe had two aces and three kills. Corinna Carroll had four digs and one ace for St. Joe (0-2). Rebekah Baker added four digs.
Wahconah coach Dave Lussier said the commanding win allowed his players to work on their fundamentals.
"We were able to get bench players into the game and work on our defensive passes," he said.
MEET AT WAHCONAH
DALTON >> The Wahconah boys team swept its opponents, while the Monument Mountain girls just edged out Wahconah to complete its sweep on Wednesday. The Taconic boys put five runners in the top 10, giving the Braves a 15-47 win over Mount Everett. Drury's Connor Meehan was the top finisher for the boys, placing first in 17 minutes and 17.89 seconds.
Monument's Grace Phair was the top finisher for the girls, finishing in 20:24.74. The Spartans put four runners in the top 10.

PITTSFIELD >> The Pittsfield boys went 2-0 against Lee and Lenox, while the Lenox girls put four runners in the top 10 to defeat Pittsfield.
Mount Greylock dominated the top five spots, claiming four of five en route to a 15-50 win over Lee. Greylock's Sam Culver was the top boys finisher, placing first in 18 minutes and 11,01 seconds. Emma Jourdain finished first for Lenox (18:25.93).
