Lord, Sprague take new roles in Eagle sports department
Richard Lord, a veteran at some of the country's best newspaper sports departments, has been named sports editor of The Eagle.
"Richard brings a wealth of experience to the post and an abundance of new plans for sports coverage in the Berkshires and beyond," said Kevin Moran, the vice president of news at The Eagle. "In his role, Richard will expand the breadth and depth of The Eagle's coverage in a way that will surprise and satisfy readers."
Lord has held top positions at sports departments including the Tampa (Fla.) Tribune (executive sports editor), Boston Herald (Sunday sports editor), New Haven (Conn.) Register and Springfield Republican (sports editorships), as well as top sports posts at the Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) Sun-Sentinel, Raleigh (N.C.) News & Observer, and Rocky Mountain News in Denver. Lord, 63, joined The Eagle staff in March 2010.
Matthew Sprague has been named The Eagle's digital editor for sports and high school sports coordinator. In this position, Sprague will oversee The Eagle's sports coverage online and be the department's planner for high school sports. Sprague, 32, has been with The Eagle's sports department since July 2007.
"This new role for Matthew blends The Eagle's mission for sports coverage at berkshireeagle.com and Matthew's expertise and experience in sports journalism," Moran said.
