"Love the town, love the kids, love the district"? Join the Lee School Committee
LEE — The Lee School Committee has issued a second call to residents to fill a two-month-old vacancy on the seven-member board.
After receiving zero letters of intent by last Friday's deadline, the committee on Tuesday night urged townspeople with a passion for eduction to apply as soon as possible.
"All you have to do is love the town, love the kids, love the district," said Chairman Robert Lohbauer.
Letters accompanied by a short resume can be sent to Interim Lee Public Schools Superintendent Al Skrocki.
"We will keep the process open until we have an applicant that meets our guidelines," Skrocki said.
The vacancy came in early June when former chairwoman Andrea Wadsworth resigned to seek and eventually land the district's business administrator position.
Wadsworth was one of 10 applicants for the full-time job, succeeding Tiffany Morawiec whose family recently moved to Texas. Morawiec followed her husband who was among the dozens of local Sabic Innovative Plastics employees relocated to the company's Houston headquarters.
Wadsworth spent five years as the business accountant for the Berkshire Hills Regional School District before becoming the town treasurer in Lenox last fall. Paula Downers has since been hired to replace Wadsworth at Lenox Town Hall.
With less than a year remaining on Wadsworth's three-year term, her successor on the Lee School Committee will serve until next May's annual town election.
Filling the seat will follow the scenario of almost nine years ago. In August 2007, the Board of Selectmen and School Committee jointly appointed Susan Harding to serve out the final year of a three-year term until the 2008 town election. Harding has since been elected twice to the committee.
Potential candidates must be legal residents of Lee and should be prepared to work toward providing the best education possible for the K-12 school system, according to school officials.
"If you have an interest in the town and the kids, you shouldn't be afraid" to apply, Skrocki said.
