Man asks judge not to go 'upstate with killers and rapists'

SPRINGFIELD, MASS. >> A western Massachusetts man begged a judge not to send him "upstate with killers and rapists" after pleading guilty to a slew of charges stemming from an assault and a high-speed chase.

The Springfield Republican reports that 35-year-old John Brady pleaded guilty Monday to assault and battery, reckless operation of a motor vehicle and other offenses. Brady also admitted to a prior parole violation.

The charges stem from an Aug. 14, 2014 incident that began when Brady refused to pull over for a traffic violation in Holyoke. Police say Brady led officers on a chase in excess of 100 mph on Interstate 391 before assaulting his date.

Hampden Superior Court Judge David Ricciardone says he will sentence Brady to serve three to five years in state prison on Friday.
