TROY, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities Authorities say 22-year-old man in custody in Massachusetts has being returned to eastern New York to face murder charges in the Fourth of July slayings of his mother and stepfather.

Local media outlets report Anthony Repp pleaded not guilty to one count of first-degree murder and two counts of second-degree murder at his arraignment Thursday in Rensselaer Court.

Repp is accused beating to death 58-year-old Cynthia Matala and 62-year-old Michael Matala, who died from skull fractures and brain injuries.

Police say the couple was attacked July 4 at their home in town of Schaghticoke. Michael Matala was pronounced dead that day. His wife died the next day at an Albany hospital.

Repp was arrested in Deerfield in western Massachusetts the day after the attack.
