PITTSFIELD -- An East Longmeadow man is out on personal recognizance after pleading not guilty to charges related to an alleged series of sexual assaults that took place more than two decades ago.

Christopher Dow, 39, is facing two counts of rape of a child with force and a single count of indecent assault and battery on a child under 14.

The complaining witness, now 33 years old, alleges he was molested by Dow between 1987 and 1990.

On Monday, Dow was arraigned in Berkshire Sup erior Court and released by Judge John A. Agostini on the condition he have no contact with the alleged victim.

The Berkshire District Attorney’s Office wouldn’t offer additional explanation as to why the charges came more than 20 years after the alleged crimes were committed. Williamstown Police, which handled the investigation, did not return phone calls.

Dow is represented by attorney Lee Flournoy. Flournoy didn’t immediately return a phone call.

Assistant District Attorney Rachael Eramo is the prosecutor.

A hearing in the case has been scheduled for Oct. 23.
