Man gets 3 years in beating of 9-month-old girl

NORTHAMPTON, MASS. >> A man charged with assaulting and severely injuring a 9-month-old baby in Belchertown in 2014 has been sentenced to three years in prison under a plea deal.

Keith Truehart of Belchertown pleaded guilty Tuesday in Hampshire Superior Court to charges he beat his then-girlfriend's daughter on at least two occasions. He will receive credit for serving just over a year in jail where he was held on bail.

State police said the baby sustained serious head and facial injuries in November 2014 when Truehart had been left alone with the girl. Doctors determined the baby had also previously suffered two fractured ribs.

Truehart had been on the Massachusetts State Police Most Wanted list prior to his capture last June. Police said Truehart was found hiding in his girlfriend's apartment.
