Man hit by tree in Lenox dies

LENOX - In what Lenox police described as an "act of God," a concertgoer departing Wednesday night's James Taylor concert at Tanglewood was killed when a tree crashed onto Richmond Mountain Road as he and his wife were walking toward their parked car.

Lester J. Holtzblatt, 61, of Sudbury, was transported to Berkshire Medical Center by County Ambulance, assisted by Lenox Fire Department first responders, where he was pronounced dead. Lenox and Stockbridge police along with Berkshire County Sheriff's Department deputies assigned to traffic control at Tanglewood responded to the scene.

The accident was reported at 10:25 p.m., according to the Lenox Police Department report, about 35 minutes after Taylor's performance concluded.

Sudbury, a town of nearly 18,000, is just north of Framingham and about 20 miles west of Boston.

Holtzblatt and his wife, whose name was not immediately available on Thursday morning, apparently were walking up the road toward Kripalu's parking lot where it is believed the couple had parked their vehicle, said Lenox Police Senior Officer Timothy Sheehan.

The accident remains under investigation by Lenox Police and by detectives assigned to the Berkshire County District Attorney's office.
