Man sentenced to life in prison in 2013 shooting death
MIDDLEBOROUGH >> A Middleborough man has been sentenced to life in prison with no parole in the 2013 slaying of a 65-year-old woman.
Thomas Buttimer was sentenced Monday after being found guilty earlier this month of murder, armed assault with intent to murder and other offenses in the July 2013 shooting of Norma DesRoche.
Prosecutors said the 55-year-old Buttimer shot DesRoche with a rifle he stole from her husband's gun safe.
Court documents showed that Buttimer had been out of jail for a month when he shot DesRoche and was living in her home as a boarder.
Authorities said DesRoche left a note asking Buttimer and her brother-in-law to move out before she was killed.
