PITTSFIELD — The body of a city man was found early Thursday in a shallow area of Pontoosuc Lake.

Charles Frambach, 73, of Pinehurst Avenue, was declared dead at the scene from an apparent drowning, according to a press release from the Berkshire District Attorney's Office.

Investigators do not currently believe foul play was involved.

Emergency personnel responded to the southeast corner of the lake near North Street and Hancock Road about 9 a.m. after a motorist reported seeing a body.

An autopsy will be performed Friday morning at the office of the chief medical examiner in Holyoke.

The Pittsfield Police Department is conducting the investigation.
