MASCAC women's soccer honor for MCLA's Natalie Caney


For the second time this month, MCLA freshman Natalie Caney is the MASCAC Women's Soccer Rookie of the Week.

Caney, a Belchertown native, scored twice for the Trailblazers this week, including a game-winning overtime goal Tuesday at Albany Pharmacy. She was also named conference rookie of the week on Sept. 8.

Williams wins invitational

WILLIAMSTOWN -- Williams College has defended its championship of its own invitational, shooting a 607 as a team in the two-day event. The Ephs held off RPI by four strokes at Taconic Golf Club.

Williams' Ross Hoffman shot a 147 over two rounds, and beat Manhattanville's Eric Michalak in a playoff for the individual title. Hoffman birdied the par-5 first hole, while Michalak bogeyed the hole.

For MCLA, Taylor Dunn shot a final-round 78 as the Trailblazers finished 23rd as a team.

MCLA tennis falls

PITTSFIELD -- The Trailblazers dropped their fifth consecutive match, as Castleton State won 7-2.

MCLA's (1-7) Kelley Bryant won at first singles, beating Monica Susslin 6-3, 1-6, 10-7. Rebecca Waterhouse scored MCLA's other point, winning a 6-2, 7-5 singles match over Kaydeen Juaire.
