Massachusetts braces for more severe weather


SPRINGFIELD (AP) -- Forecasters say another round of severe thunderstorms could affect portions of Massachusetts.

Some of the storms moving through the area on Monday could produce strong winds and heavy rain.

Several communities in western Massachusetts are cleaning up after powerful storms on Sunday. The Republican newspaper ( ) reports downed trees and power lines in Agawam, with some homes and cars damaged in at least one neighborhood.

Sgt. Anthony Grasso said several downed trees were blocking Reed Street and a portion of Main Street was also blocked by low-hanging electrical wires after the storm.

Western Massachusetts Electric reported more than 5,000 customers without power at the height of Sunday’s storms. Most have since been restored.
