MCLA announces 9/11 service drive


NORTH ADAMS -- As part of its "First Days" activities, Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts’ Center for Service and Citizenship has announced a 9/11 Community Service Necessities Drive in support of local veterans.

Sponsored by the Massachusetts Service Alliance, this new initiative is part of MCLA’s annual service programs. Members of the community are asked to consider supporting area veterans by purchasing and contributing toiletries such as shampoo, soaps, toothpaste, etc.

Items can be dropped off at the Berkshire Food Project at the First Congregational Church of North Adams, on weekdays between 9 and 11 a.m., or at the Northern Berkshire Community Coalition, 61 Main St., Suite 218, weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Highland Street Foundation’s "Free Fun Friday" program will soon come to a close, but there’s still plenty of fun in store. The program offers free admission to museums and other cultural institutions across Massachusetts.

On Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., enjoy free admission to the Berkshire Museum in Pittsfield. Entrance to the live Butterfly Pavilion is an additional $2. Also on Friday and Saturday at the Berkshire Museum, Berkshire Children’s Theater will present a musical version of the classic tale "Snow White," with shows at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults, $8 per child; free for children ages 3 and under.

As for remaining Free Fun Friday events in the Berkshires, the Norman Rockwell Museum in Stockbridge and The Mount: Edith Wharton’s Home in Lenox, will participate on Friday, Aug. 29.
