MCLA drops OT decision
NORTH ADAMS - A pair of scores by Western New England's Taylor Mazurski, including the game-winner in overtime, gave the visitors a 2-1 victory over the MCLA women.
The Golden Bears got a goal from Mazurski at 57:01 to take a 1-0 lead after a scoreless first half. Mazurski took a Rachel Suntag ball in front of the net, where she fired a blast past MCLA goalie Danielle Heinsohn.
It looked as though that goal might stand up, as MCLA had only a handful of chances in the second period.
But that changed abruptly, as the Trailblazers tied the game with a goal from Jennifer Ferrari, scoring off her own rebound at 83:56. Ferrari's first shot was stopped by WNEC goaltender Briana Kubik, but the ball popped right back to Ferrari, who punched it back in.
In the first overtime, neither team had any clear chances.
But that changed in the second extra period, when in the 103rd minute, Mazurski took a through pass from Sarah Marois and scored her fifth goal of the year. Heinsohn had six saves for MCLA, now 5-7 on the year. Kubik had three saves for WNEC, as the team improved to 7-7-1 on the season.
WNEC outshot the Trailblazers 21-8, and had eight corner kicks to the home side's two.
