MCLA men's basketball routs Westfield in MASCAC tourney


WESTFIELD -- The MCLA men's basketball team used hot 3-point shooting to beat Westfield State 89-67 in the MASCAC quarterfinals on Tuesday.

The Trailblazers knocked down 12 three-pointers for the game, and took a 16-point lead into halftime. Ramon Viches scored 11 of his 16 points in the first half. He knocked down three of his four 3-pointers in the first half as well.

The second half belonged to MCLA's Paul Maurice and John Jones. Jones scored 18 of his game-high 24 points on the second half on 8-of-9 shooting from the field. Maurice added four 3-pointers in the half; he had 22 points for the game.

The Trailblazers advance to face Salem State on Thursday.
