MCLA pitchers spin pair
The Trailblazers tossed a pair of seven-inning no-hitters and won by a combined score of 31-0 against host Southern Vermont.
MCLA, which has won four straight, won the first game 13-0 and the second game 18-0.
Jim Pesente went the distance in the first game, striking out seven and allowing just one walk. He completed his outing in just 71 pitches.
In the second game, five pitchers combined to allow just one walk. James Greeley, Andrew Gaines, Wahconah Regional's Andrew Kelly, Sean Kelly and Duncan McDonald each pitched fewer than two innings to cobble together the victory.
Puleri had planned to use a number of pitchers in the first game, but Pesente was so economical that he finished the outing.
"Obviously we were the superior team," MCLA coach Jeff Puleri said. "The way we pitched today, we would have beaten a lot of teams. The pitchers were all making quality pitches and getting ahead early. They were very impressive."
Former St. Joseph's High student Tim Burns had four hits in the two games, and Anthony Bruno had five.
The Trailblazers, who improved to 6-10, return to action on Saturday at Mass Maritime.
WILLIAMSTOWN The Williams College softball team scratched out a run with a squeeze bunt in the sixth inning to salvage a split with Smith College.
