MCLA softball routs Mass. Maritime in doubleheader sweep


BUZZARDS BAY -- MCLA's softball team got offensive Monday, throttling Mass. Maritime in a doubleheader sweep. The Trailblazers won by scores of 14-0 and 11-2, with each game going five innings.

MCLA (10-14, 6-4 MASCAC) scored all 11 of its nightcap runs in the first inning. Sam Barbarotta drove in three runs for the Trailblazers, while Amanda Meczywor drove in two runs. Interestingly, five MCLA batters were hit by a pitch in the first inning.

In the opener, Meczywor drove in three runs, as did Shelbi Clary. MCLA scored four runs each in the second, fourth and fifth innings.

BUZZARDS BAY -- MCLA fell victim to the first perfect game in Mass. Maritime history Monday, as Kevin Kwedor set down 21 batters in a row and struck out six in the Buccaneers' 4-0 win over the Trailblazers.

MCLA (3-20, 1-11 MASCAC) lost the nightcap 7-2. Mike Sullivan (RBI single, third inning) and Ryan Ouimet (RBI sac fly, fourth inning) drove in runs for MCLA in the Game 2 loss.
