MCLA women's basketball picks up first victory of season


NASHUA, N.H. — The MCLA women's basketball team picked up its first win of the season with a 71-57 win over Daniel Webster College on Wednesday.

Courtney Pingelski led the Trailblazers (1-2) with 15 points. Ashley Clawson had 12 points and Courtney McLaughlin added 11 points.

MCLA jumped out to a 23-4 first-quarter lead, but the Eagles rallied back, cutting their deficit to seven heading into the second half.

Brianna Diggs' lay-up brought the Eagles within five, but the Blazers put together a 17-2 run, sparked by Karina Mattera's six straight points.

Ashley England led Daniel Webster with 25 points. Desiree McGee added 12 points and 14 rebounds.

MCLA returns to action Saturday, hosting SUNY Cobleskill at 4 P.M.

Men's Basketball


On Tuesday In North Adams, Dakari Hannah-Wornum scored MCLA's final four points in the second overtime, leading the Trailblazers (2-1) over Lyndon State.

Hannah-Wornum scored four of his 14 points in the final period. He added 18 rebounds and had a clutch block in the final seconds of the extra period as well.

Saint Joseph graduate Joe Wiggins led the Trailblazers with 21 points. Khalil Paul and Careem Kirksey added 16 points each.

The Trailblazers will host Castleton at 7 P.M. on Friday.
