MCLA's Lucy Tremblay reaches 1,000 career points; 'Blazers beat USJ in women's hoops

Saturday December 8, 2012

NORTH ADAMS -- MCLA senior Lucy Tremblay scored a career-best 39 points, including the 1,000th of her career, in leading the women’s basketball team past the University of St. Joseph 86-75.

Tremblay entered the night needing 15 points to reach the milestone. She wasted little time as she scored the first eight points of the night for MCLA (4-3), quickly becoming the fifth member of the exclusive club. Tremblay tallied the milestone marker with 4 minutes, 30 seconds remaining in the half on a drive to the hoop. Her bucket gave MCLA a 32-26 lead at the time.

MCLA used the momentum and outscored USJ 14-8 over the final 4 minutes to take a 46-34 lead at halftime. Any thoughts of a USJ comeback were quickly put to rest as MCLA came out of the locker room and scored the first eight points to build a 54-34 advantage. The lead grew to as many as 24 following a Danielle Beauchamp bucket at the 12-minute mark. St. Joseph closed the gap to 11 on two occasions, but MCLA had an answer each time. And that answer was Tremblay.

The senior guard shot 14 of 22 from the floor, including 4 of 9 from 3-point range. She scored 22 points in the opening period and 17 after halftime. She also added six rebounds, three assists and three steals.

Kait Chenevert scored 13 points for MCLA, while Johanna Miner and Danielle Beauchamp scored 11 each.
